Untamed Dreams
Untamed Dreams
There once was a man
who had too many dreams
short ones, small ones
big ones, tall ones
all crowded together in a cage,
sardines packed in brine unable to breathe
until the smallest one died without love
and all the other dreams felt sad
then they grew mad,
mad as a hatter and mean
so the man stopped dreaming altogether
and locked away love and hope
but dreams never stop dreaming,
drawing her to his need
she brought a key,
opening the cage of dreams
free at last,
the man simply wept,
his dreams setting fire to his soul
Dreams have a way of sticking around when they are as unforgettable as the waft of an open can of sardines. Beautiful poem!
