Ashes never burn back to love

Oh how gleefully
we douse fire in gasoline
bathing in flames

We were hungry
ravenous as fire's greed
letting the blaze consume us

with fevered dreams
we forgot the cost
shifting through the embers
still warm from so much lust

We tried
and gave our all
in the end gave too much
we couldn't save each other
couldn't save ourselves

Fighting fate
and a plethora of scars
the damage too long hidden

We never knew the toll
building our lives
with lust and fire but

ashes never burn back to love
