Ashes never burn back to love

Oh how gleefully
we doused the fire in gasoline
bathing in caressing flames

We were as hungry
as fire's greed
and our blaze consumed us

So it was with
the dreams we had
as we shifted through the embers
still warm from what was

We tried
and gave our all
in the end gave too much
we couldn't save each other
couldn't save ourselves

Fighting fate
and a plethora of scars
the damage too long hidden

We never knew the toll
building our lives
with lust and fire but

ashes never burn back to love
